Double cowgirl for monster pike?

I go on an annual trip to northern Manitoba pike fishing in early August. We usually catch several pike between 40 to 46 inches and they are feeding actively. My friend works at a tackle shop and suggested a double cowgirl musky lure. I paid my 26 bucks (by far the most I've ever spent on a lure) and got an absolute beast of a black and chartruse lure in the mail. I have a curado 200 dpv reel with a 5.01 retreive on a Med Heavy St. Croix 7 ft rod rated for lures up to 3 oz. I am going to use 50# power pro. Is my tackle up to casting and retrieving the 3oz beast with double #10 colorado blades? I know it's supposed to be great for musky but is it overkill using this thing for big pike? It makes a #5 mepps look like a gnat and takes up half my box.

I think this could be a good choice and as a musky fisherman I understand why you would want to upsize your lures. I dont think its overkill at all and if I were in your situation I would start throwing bigger baits in every category (and not just inline spinners.) My friends and I often catch big pike while fishing musky so dont worry that you are off-base with your tactics. Try to upsize your spinnerbaits, crankbaits and topwaters too. In addition to throwing bigger hardware you may want to fish a little deeper too. Try focusing on structure like rocky dropoffs or weedbeds that are adjacent to deeper water or the main lake basin.
