5 Great Caribbean Events To Visit In December
During December, visitors to the Caribbean will find themselves enchanted by five diverse events: the St. Lucia’s Heineken Kalalu Music Festival, the Cayman Jazz Festival, the St. Kitts Carnival, the Bahamas Junkaroo and the Bahamas International Film Festival.
The picture that comes to mind for most people when they think of the Caribbean is exotic cuisine served on a palm fringed beach. Going to the Caribbean is like a trip to paradise, whether you want to unwind on Carriacou or explore the unspoiled isle of Petite Martinique. Apart from the natural beauty that the islands have to offer, guests and tourists can also expect several exciting activities and events that are sure to complete their vacation. The following events are staged in December, so you can plan a trip around them:
The Bahamas International Film Festival
The BIFF, short for the Bahamas International Film Festival, is a Caribbean version of traditional Hollywood fanfare. This exciting and spectacular event will be enjoyed by movie enthusiasts. From December 6-13, the Film Festival is in full swing and attracts the likes of Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage, and Sean Connery. At BIFF you will enjoy gala events, tributes, discussions, scriptwriting workshops, film making workshops, and special screenings.
The St. Kitts Carnival
Many Caribbean Islands celebrate island culture and commemorating past events. Caribbean Carnivals with their colorful parades, street parties, and lively costumes and decorations are an icon. St. Kitts Carnival is unique for its holiday celebrations denoting national glory. It will last from mid December until the 2nd of January. Attendees enjoy the j’ouvert, the huge parade, street festivals, and the sounds and tastes.
The Jazz Festival on Cayman
Although relatively new compared to other historic festivals, the Cayman Jazz Festival is an unforgettable experience for music lovers and for anyone seeking a relaxing night of music and entertainment. Big names on the international music scene like Alicia Keys, Oleta Adams and Peabo Bryson as well as unique local musicians are sure to captivate guests.
The Bahamas Junkanoo
The Junkanoo is not your average street parade. It runs on different days with each highlighting different events. The young and impressive Bahamian Junkanoo dancers are featured in the Junior Junkanoo Parade held on the second Thursday of December. Guests and visitors will be amazed at the skill of these young dancers whose talent and love for dancing has been ingrained and taught to them since childhood. There is a different Junkanoo parade scheduled for the day after Christmas. The Boxing Day Junkanoo parade is an event that includes costumes, performers, and unique music. Right after midnight mass, at 2 a.m. on Christmas day, the parade begins! It is the biggest festival in the Bahamas that is not of a religious nature.
St. Lucia’s Heineken Kalalu World Music Festival
Music lovers and enthusiasts will be drawn to the island of St. Lucia for the Heineken Kalalu World Music Festival. This festival is proud to offer a bright array of musical types along the beautiful oceanfront. This multicultural celebration of diverse music lasts 4 nights, long enough to grab the attention of any music-lover.
The Caribbean is not only a great place to stay for a vacation but has its own set of events that every visitor will look forward to.
